Retirement is a lifecycle state, not an afterthought. A tool can be removed from a homepage while remaining active in an integration, search index, or scheduled job.
Stop exposure first
Unpublish the record and remove it from search and sitemap eligibility. Confirm that detail routes return the intended unavailable response rather than stale content.
Stop execution
Disable scheduled refreshes, revoke credentials, remove webhooks, and review integrations. Keep evidence and an owner for the retirement decision.
Handle data
Follow the documented retention and deletion rules for prompts, outputs, exports, logs, and backups. Do not delete required audit evidence merely to make a dashboard look clean.
Preserve the fallback
Tell affected users what replaces the workflow or how to perform it manually. A retirement is complete when the old dependency cannot silently reappear through automation.
